The mass was set at 430PM. There was no rush in the morning as we all just thought it best to leave the house by 230PM. On the way, we bought 2 baskets of flowers for P200 and P300. Parking wasn't allowed inside Cempark near the entrance. However, parking was okay in areas near the exit. It helped decongest the already crowded cemetery.

Monsignor Kintanar officiated the mass in native Cebuano dialect. Some of us understood the conversational Cebuano dialect but not too much the really deep and formal Bible verses. Anyway, our replies were mostly said (softly) in English. The important thing is we participated in the mass and prayed for our loved ones.

By 530PM, dinner was served. With Mama Sol at the helm of this annual family activity, we were not surprised to see lechon, kinilaw, fried lumpia, siomai, chicken, budbud (suman), giant crabs (flown in from Siargao Island), prawns, etc. It was an early dinner that actually lasted us till breakfast the following day.

To us, November 1 is not just for remembering our dearly departed. It is also a time for us to re-connect and reunite with our living loved ones.

Below is a beautiful prayer shared by Cathy

AN IRISH FUNERAL PRAYER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.
  1. wow, sarap naman! :)
    we just stayed home the whole day, heard mass at 6 p.m. and pigged out at shakey's JY. sila lang ang nakita naming bukas. we wanted to go to BTC but we weren't sure if it was open plus we also wanted to avoid the traffic there.
    di ako makapaniwala, minoy is on leave today to be marti's 'yayo'. ang galing, bait-bait ni marti. daming kinain for breakfast. dapat ata sya ang mag-resign, ako ang mag-work :)
  2. HI MIMI!
    Sarap grabe ng crabs, prawns, lechon.... ayayay! Forget about the calories muna. SM was open daw from 12 noon onwards. Ayala was closed din. There wasn't much traffic in the Banilad area, to our relief.
    Galing ni Minoy! Father figure na talaga... Parang natural nga sa kanya when I saw him caring for Marti last Monday at the Marriott. :D
  3. I miss going to cempark, and visiting Lolo and cousin Ton. It's also a holiday that people here in North America dont commemorate, as it was business as usual.
    Mas na ce celebrate pa ang Halloween! Boo....
  4. HI JUNNIE!
    That's precisely why I wrote that title, to distinguish it from "Halloween" or "Trick or Treat". After all, November 1 to Pinoys is really All Saints' Day... :D
  7. I particularly liked what Monsignor Kintanar said about being Saints....Because it's too expensive to research and collate materials for hopeful Saints nowadays...he suggested that we could all do good and be saintly in our own circle...family, friends, community. Just imagine how nice our world would be if we all do what is good! Happy All Saints' Day!
  8. HI MIMI!
    When I gave birth to Jake via CS, Jerry pitched in and volunteered to clean Jake after every poop while I recuperated. :D
    HI NOTSQUARE!
    Thanks! Kaka-flatter naman ang compliments mo. :D Pero you should see me up close, I have big pores and flawed skin. :D Hehehe... Happy weekend!
    HI JERRY!
    I agree. I know of one in our household. You. Naks... Hehehe... Kasi even if "you know who" falsely accuses you of things or tries to discredit you, a lot of people in and out of our circle know what's truly in your heart. Nothing but good intentions.
    Ako, I'm far from being one, I'm a spitfire in letting people know they wronged me... But that is only so that "you know who" would (hopefully soon) realize that what he/she did was totally, unspeakably WRONG.
  9. I do not like to sound morbid, gruesome and kill-joy but let us accept the fact that death is a certainty. Yes? In one epitaph I have seen at Cempark, I was struck by the words inscribed on the tomb: Remember man, remember me. What you are now, I was once. What I am now you will be. Remember man, remember me.
    Whether we like it or not, this is a stark reminder to us all of the inevitable. We are born to die. The moment we begin to live, we die.There is no escape.
    What therefore can we do this early is to amend our evil ways, repent and believe in the Gospel!
  10. HI PAPARAZZI!
    Yup... Death is something everyone has to deal with. That's why I keep to mind what you always say that it's not about putting years into your life but life (of good deeds) in your years...
